Motorola Charm is now available on T-Mobile for free or $75, depending on where you buy it
Vlad Bobleanta By Vlad Bobleanta on 25 Aug 10. The Motorola Charm was announced for T-Mobile almost two months ago. Since then, a few things have happened. It was apparently delayed, then slated for an August 25th release (which, as it turns out, was true). There was also some info on pricing, but thankfully that $189.99 price tag turned out not to be true. And, just one week ago, Telus launched it in Canada before T-Mobile did in the US.

But the day when you can get a Motorola Charm on T-Mobile has finally arrived. If you choose to buy direct from TMo, the Charm will set you back $75 (after a $75 mail-in rebate) with a new contract. However, you can currently get it from Wirefly for free with a $59.99 per month contract. Strangely though, if you already have a T-Mobile contract, Wirefly will sell you the Charm for $50, and you’ll still have to renew your service agreement.

Expected to hit the UK in July, the Motorola Milestone XT720 will also be available in other European countries – one of them is Germany, where the new smartphone was announced yesterday. Motorola (which, in the meantime, readies the launch of the Droid X via Verizon) didn’t say how much the XT720 will cost in Germany, but we know that, in the UK, the smartphone should retail for about €540. The Milestone XT720 is the first Android smartphone to feature a camera with Xenon flash (8MP). It also comes with Android 2.1, a 3.7 inch, 480 x 854 pixels touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, GPS, HMDI out, HD video recording, and an 8GB memory card preinstalled.

Verizon Wireless has finally confirmed the upcoming launch of Motorola’s new Droid, which will be officially introduced as Motorola Droid X .

The Droid X is now featured on Verizon’s official website, between the first Motorola Droid and the HTC Droid Incredible, and it’s “coming soon.”

Interestingly, Verizon says the Droid X has a 4.3 inch display, HDMI output, and a “720p screen” – which translates into a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. That’s quite unlikely, so Verizon probably meant to say the handset records video at 720p, not that its screen is a 720p one.

Boost Mobile has launched basic iDEN phone, namely the Motorola i296. Built to US military-standard 810F requirements for dust, vibration and shock resistance, the Motorola i296 is presented as “the ideal phone for fun in the sun.”

The candybar costs only $59.99, and, for that kind of money, it doesn’t look bad at all. It features Nationwide Walkie-Talkie capability, GPS, Web browser, voice-activated dialing, SMS, MMS, Bluetooth, and it does not have a photo camera. The Moto i296 should be available as of today online and “through Boost Mobile exclusive retail stores and select independent wireless dealer locations.” Best Buy, Target and Sprint Wireless stores will sell the phone starting the coming months.

Motorola i1, the world’s first Android iDEN smartphone, will be finally available in the US starting June 20, via Boost Mobile. PhoneNews has it that the launch date was confirmed in a TV ad that aired yesterday during the broadcast of the Indianapolis 500 auto race.

It’s said that the Motorola i1 costs $349.99 without a contract – and I think this will make it one of Boost Mobile’s most expensive phones ever. Even so, Boost will probably sell lots of i1s – the handset looks good, it’s rugged and it also has lots of nice features, like a HVGA touchscreen display, Google Maps, Swype, Wi-Fi, and a 5MP camera with flash.

Motorola Redefines Backroom Management - Adding to the revolutionary design and functionality of the MC9500 mobile computer, Motorola is also introducing the first universal accessory system. Designed to enable an unprecedented level of flexibility and modularity, the new system helps maximize backroom efficiency by optimizing the space needed for mobile computers, charging cradles, power packs and cables. In addition, the new backroom management system provides increased return-on-investment by integrating an agnostic cradling approach that can support a variety of Motorola mobile computers enabling customers to migrate to future generations without replacing or upgrading the backroom management infrastructure. To further increase productivity and reduce downtime, Motorola MAX Battery provides information indicators on the battery that allow backroom managers and users to see the charge level as well as battery health to ensure maximum uptime.

“As enterprise needs evolve, organizations are looking for more than the latest technology to meet the business-critical needs of mobile workers, “said David Krebs, analyst, VDC. “Motorola has embraced these requirements with its new MC9500 which integrates an innovative combination of features, functionality and design to empower the mobile workforce and impact business operations. In addition to advanced ergonomic design the new MC9500 mobile computer also features a portfolio of modular, swappable keypads that meet the needs of virtually any application.

The MC9500 incorporates interactive sensor technology (IST) – a new Motorola feature that supports a host of motion-sensing applications that enable organizations to derive increased business value. For example, enterprises can increase worker accountability by detecting and logging device drops. In addition, the IST improves power management by enabling the MC9500 mobile computer to automatically revert to sleep mode when not in use or if the display is face down. And for added flexibility, in applications such as signature capture, the integrated accelerometer also allows the display to dynamically switch between portrait and landscape modes based on the orientation of the device.

The MC9500 is the first mobile computer based on Motorola’s Mobility Platform Architecture 2.0 – redefining the design and innovation of rugged mobile computing solutions. Equipped with the Marvell XScale PXA320 806 MHz processor and Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, the MC9500 places the latest technology in the hands of mobile workforces around the globe. With enterprise-class GPS functionality, it provides coverage in even the most challenging environments for reliable location-based services. A 3-megapixel auto-focus high-resolution digital color camera can be used with either the scanner or imager for the capture of high-resolution photographs, video footage and documents – allowing for easy signature capture, proof of condition or delivery.

The company already launched a few programs aimed at helping developers build applications for the platform and seems to do more.

Moreover, some details on the user interface Motorola’s Android handsets are expected to be included in the news on Internet lately. According to BGR, the custom user interface Motorola plans for its Android phones should be called Blur and should sport a lot of features similar to those present with the webOS platform Palm has recently launched with its high-end Pre smartphone.

Motorola UI is heavily web-connected and that different areas of the OS and the interface will get updated over the air and is available in these phones. Other connectivity options are also expected to be available in the Android phones but complete details are yet to be revealed.

In the near future, Motorola as per its latest strategy likely to concentrate on the low to mid-range smartphone segment and is expected to launch a number of new devices. Right from its earlier policy in 2005, like Motorola had done with Razr back, this is a remarkable change from that.

Motorola is proved to be unable to compete with the likes of Apple iPhone and RIM in the high-end segment and thus is now targeting the low-end segment in which it is having surety for getting more margins from sales. Android OS which is free is used in this smartphones.

The main objective for this is also to increase the company’s dwindling market share that has been on a constant slide over the past year or so. Moreover, due to the recession time the company thinks that it makes sense to concentrate more on the mid and low-end segment that involves lesser capital to develop and manufacture newer products.

With the new strategy Motorola expects an increase up to 20% in the number of units shipped. This possible could lead to the turnaround the company is in need of since long. Hope so and lets check it out in future.

Motorola Inc, the world leader in Bluetooth headsets, today unveils Motorola Endeavor HX1, the first headset to combine Motorola’s CrystalTalk noise cancellation technology with a stealth mode so you can hear and be heard in the fiercest environments.

When the stealth mode is activated, true bone conduction technology relays only your voice while knocking out the most extreme noise and wind for a revolutionary premium headset experience. This experience makes Motorola Endeavor the only Bluetooth headset to use true bone conduction technology, all without compromising comfort.

“Motorola Endeavor HX1 adds a new level of audio superiority to our industry leading portfolio and is made for people who want the freedom to take hands-free calls despite extreme noise and wind environments,” said Wayne White, corporate vice president, companion products, Motorola Mobile Devices. “Whether you are driving in a convertible, attending a concert or standing on a busy street, Motorola Endeavor allows you to hear and be heard.”

The Truth about Bone Conduction Technology - Created with the same bone conduction technology that special military forces around the world use, Motorola Endeavor is not your average headset. Activated with a touch of a button, the stealth mode instantly triggers bone conduction technology.

This technology uses an ear sensor to seal off outside noise, rather than relying on an exposed exterior microphone. As you speak, the sensor taps your vocal vibrations and seamlessly converts them to speech so the listener hears your voice and only your voice.
