Overview

Entry-level Smartphone

Overview of the Micromax Q1

Micromax Q1 is a dual-SIM Smartphone manufactured by Micromax, a leading Indian Telecom company. Although the phone bears a QWERTY keyboard as well as a host of other multimedia features, it is essentially an entry-level Smartphone.

Micromax Q1Design and Build Quality

Micromax Q1 has a trendy Smartphone look with a dashing black color on the front and back and the sides red. It weighs just 97g and measures 111.2 x 61.2 x 13mm. This phone has a 2.2-inch TFT display screen that is capable of displaying 256Kcolors and 176 x 220 pixels resolution (128 ppi density). Its QWERTY keyboard has a 5-way navigation key that makes it very user-friendly. Micromax Q1 uses standard 3.7 V, 1000mAh Li-ion battery that can support 3 hours of talk time and 120 hours standby time. The phone operates on a dual GSM network of 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency bandwidth.

User Interface and Comfort to Use Micromax Q1

Micromax Q1 has many of the standard Smartphone features and is both easy and exciting to use. Its 5-way navigation key makes it user friendly. It has an intuitive user interface and its QWERTY keyboard is of high quality.

Telephone and Phonebook

Micromax Q1 can support 500 phonebook entries and store up to 300 SMSs. It also has a PHB photo call feature.

Messaging and Email

This phone supports both SMS and MMS.

Gallery and Photo Viewer and Video Player

Micromax comes with a primary camera that bears a digital zoom. The phone, however, lacks a video player.

Micromax Q1 Music Player and FM Radio

This phone comes with a high quality music player and stereo FM Radio. Audio output is in several formats such as MP3, WA, AMR, and MIDI.

Micromax Q1 Connectivity Options

The connectivity options for Micromax Q1 include 32-48 Kbps GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots). This phone does not support Wi-Fi, Infrared, WLAN and EDGE.

Organizer and Other Utility Tools

Micromax Q1 comes with all standard organizer tools such as Calendar, Currency Converter, Calculator, 12 Hour and 24 Hour World Clock and other features.

Web Browser and Applications

Micromax Q1 operates on 2G internet speeds and a WAP 2.0/HTML browser. There are a number of pre-loaded games available.

Google Maps and GPS

Micromax Q1 has neither Google Maps nor GPS.

Distinctive Features of Micromax Q1

Micromax Q1 has a high quality QWERTY keyboard. This phone though is essentially an entry-level Smartphone and lacks some features considered standard in smart phones such as Bluetooth connectivity and 3G internet speeds. It is hard to pick any other features that make this phone outstanding.

Value for Money and Verdict

Micromax Q1 retails at an average price of Rs. 1528 (approx., may vary). Micromax Q1 is an entry-level Smartphone that operates on 2G internet speeds. This obviously means that download speeds for apps is bound to be slow. The phone also lacks a video camera that is quite surprising considering that it is a Smartphone. Many people nowadays consider a video camera as an almost standard feature in smart phones so the fact that it has none might make it unattractive to the average person. It also lacks support for Java, which is a major omission for a Smartphone. This means that Micromax Q1 might be better suited for people who want a Smartphone but can afford to do away with many Smartphone features such as Java, video camera and Bluetooth connectivity. Given its very low price of Rs. 1528, however, one cannot expect too much from the phone.
