DK is currently working on a new set of qualification tests of 640GB drive platters which can be crammed into a standard 3.5″ hard drive, allowing one to come up with a four-platter drive which is capable of holding up to 2.5TB of storage space in the near future.
These new drives will be mass produced sometime in November onwards, and their effort will ramp up to full speed by the time January rolls around. Apart from that, TDK is also working on 320GB platters that will target 2.5″ hard drives, paving the way for notebook hard drives to achieve a 640GB capacity without piling on the bulk.

When people are moved towards the smartphone, iPhones and the Androids, Philips is also not left behind. Here, it is Philips with its first ever Android based phone! Yes, the phone is very good and as expected nothing special similar to the Android handsets in market. The news was revealed on the Chinese website, which claimed that they had just received the phone and that they would be reviewing it soon.
The available pictures of the phone are not very clear. It features a 3.2 megapixel camera which features video recording. The display is very attractive. It’s a 320×480 affair and will support widgets. There is no apparent news about the date it will roll out on street. Even it is not so sure yet whether it is a real Philips branded phone or just a Chinese knock off.

Initially known as BlackBerry Gemini, the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is now finally official, after several months of leaked images and details. As you may already know, BlackBerry Curve 8520 is RIM’s first device to have an optical trackpad instead of a trackball.
The smartphone further features a “highly tactile full-QWERTY keyboard”, Wi-Fi, quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity, a 320 x 240 pixels display, a 2MP camera, and a 1GB MicroSD card in the box. BlackBerry Curve 8520 will be available from T-Mobile USA starting August 5, in two colors (black and frost). Also in August, the new Curve 8520 will go on sale in the UK. The smartphone’s price was not announced by RIM.

China Techfaith Wireless Communication Technology Limited, a China-based original developed product (ODP) provider focused on the original design and development of handsets and sales of finished products, today announced the launch of the G6, the mobile phone for sporty games. G6 is expected to ship into Asia during the third quarter, with a further global rollout planned.
G6 was designed to serve as a feature-rich mobile phone and both an equally strong mobile gaming platform and as a remote control for PC gaming, with advanced motion sensors. Customers will initially be able to play table tennis, tennis, bowling, golf, car racing, and other sporting games. The G6 also features dual-GSM SIM card standby functionality in a small and easy-to-carry design factor.
Defu Dong, Chairman and CEO of TechFaith, said, “The G6 is a fantastic mobile phone with unique and powerful functionality as a remote control for PC games with advanced motion sensors. Compared to other remote motion sensor game controllers, the G6 is much easier to carry, has higher functionality and lower cost, and serves as a feature-rich mobile phone. Last week, the leak of the Rachael, the Android based stunner of a phone from Sony Ericsson was reported. The details were not revealed though and the phone was very impressive to have the details. The wait is over with Expansys revealed the valuable specifications of the Android based Sony Ericsson’s phone. The reports termed the phone as Xperia X5.
We have online retailer Expansys posting a page with a detailed description of a phone that is none other than the Rachael and surprisingly, this one comes with the “X3″ tag and not the X5 as most had expected.
According to Gizmo do, this phone sports a 4-inch 800 x 400-pixel touchscreen display and an 8 MP camera with LED flash for clicking clear pictures. It has VGA video recording and is equipped with the Rachael user interface. It has Quad-band GSM connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and Dual-band 3G (900/2100MHz) with HSDPA 10Mbps and HSUPA 2Mbps.
The Rachael also supports WiFi IEEE 802.11g and A-GPS that helps one find their way anywhere anyplace. It also has Bluetooth 2.1 for easy transfer of files. The phone features a 3.5 mm audio jack and also has email support (POP3, IMAP4, SMTP, and MS Exchange). It also possesses a miniUSB and offers microSDHC card capabilities.
The Rachael is likely to could turn around Sony Ericsson’s fledgling fortunes. Due to the increased competition from the big rivals like Apple, Samsung and LG, the company has been struggling to maintain its overall standing in the market. On top of this the unexciting product line, almost spelled doom for the company.

Sony Ericsson has launched its new handset W995 Walkman phone. It can be yours for just Rs 27,786. The Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman mobile phone has a 2.6″ resolution display and supports an auto rotate function that allows the user to rotate their handset in horizontal mode as well as vertical mode powerful.
The mobile phone consists of speakers and 3.5mm audio socket. The phone features 8.1 mega pixel camera with face detection, smile shutter and LED flash, motion and PC like gaming. In addition to this it also has YouTube and great storage facility of 8GB memory card. Video viewing is enhanced with pocket home theatre system MS-410 that comes with the phone.

The rumors says that the newer generation of iPods, specifically the new Touch that is apparently on the way will be able to provide users with a little more than just audio video and surfing. Even the reports have stated that ‘well-connected’ sources have information that the new iPod Touch would come equipped with a camera and a microphone as well.
iPod is a Wi-Fi enabled device and thus PMP could make it an upgrade by adding communication via voice and image to the media device. With the combo of the microphone and Wi-Fi, the camera Skype calling could be enabled.
Most likely other manufacturers will follow the suit. There are chances that the camera may be used as a stand alone obviously for taking pictures and the same reports are also suggesting that the microphone could make voice commands a reality for the iPod Touch, making it that much more akin to the new iPhone 3GS.

In today’s reports, Nokia, a company form Finland has denied to be working on a mobile phone running on Google’s Android mobile operating system. Guardian, a British daily newspaper reports today morning, “industry insiders” saying that Nokia would unveil in September a mobile phone running on the Google Android operating system (OS).
But Nokia has denied Guardian’s speculation and said to the Reuters that, there is “Absolutely no truth to this whatsoever.” Nokia also denied as a company spokesman quoted, “Everyone knows that Symbian is our preferred platform for advanced mobile devices.”
Nokia’s choice in OS is none other than Symbian for smartphones, or multimedia computers, i.e. company’s devices. But recently, Nokia is having hard time to keep up its name in the market and HSBC analysts gives his views, by the Guardian reckon that the Finnish company has lost smartphone market share, going down to 31 percent at the end of 2008 (from 47 percent in 2007).
During the recent times, Nokia has done a large investment in Symbian. The biggest move during last year was the company buying out the partners in the Symbian OS joint venture. Nokia was planning with this to offer the Symbian platform free of cost to the other smartphone manufacturers.
This sounds similar as Google is using the same approach with its Android mobile OS. Google, the biggest search engine is offering Android for free to any manufacturers that want to release smartphones using its OS. This model is proving very popular till now with lot of Android cell phones coming out this year, for an example, T-Mobile myTouch 3G, Samsung Galaxy, and HTC Hero.
Google’s Android OS was built from the ground up with touchscreen use in mind while the Nokia’s latest devices featuring the Symbian OS (the flagship N97 and the 5800 model) have been criticized for the lack of finger-friendly navigation. Symbian OS was originally designed for the alphanumeric keyboards devices and then revamped for touchscreen phones, thus requires the the use of a stylus in many cases.
Although, Guardian’s “industry insiders” are not completely wrong. Nokia has partnered with Intel to create a new stable of mobile products later in the last month. As Nokia currently owns a Linux-based Maemo OS, which powers the company’s Internet tablets, there is a possibility of Google Android to be the company’s OS of choice for this new breed of devices.

It is well-known that Sony Ericsson is going to launch its own Android based device later this year. But the detail regarding the first Sony Ericsson Android device was unknown. Until now, we did not know but now we do have some information regarding the upcoming new mobile phone.
This latest device is codenamed as “Rachael” and is said to feature a large touchscreen panel and will be have a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip inside it, doing all the number crunching. Due to the Snapdragon processor, which runs at 1 GHz the specs of the Rachael will also be revolutionary of sorts. The phone will support high definition video decoding. It will have a 12 megapixel camera, broadcast T Android based, Wi Fi, and GPS.
There are chances of Rachael to be released as an Xperia branded phone. Moreover, there might be a downgrade to an 8.1 megapixel camera as well. But that’s all still remains unconfirmed its just supposition. The successor of the current X1 which happens to be X2, will run on Windows Mobile is already known to us. This might turn out to be X5 which lots of people talk about since long.
Another phone that’s in news nowadays is the quite interesting little phone called “KiKi”. Till now, we only know that KiKi comes with a transparent display and images will be projected on to the display when you’re using it.
