Following a meeting in Seoul today between the Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, Yoon-Woo Lee, and the CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, Samsung Electronics announced that it will collaborate with Microsoft on efficient energy usage in computers. The two companies are aimed at encouraging PC users to purchase more environmentally friendly PC systems. Samsung expects substantial energy savings when Microsoft’s flagship Windows 7 operating system and Samsung’s 40 nanometer (nm) class DDR3 DRAM are used together.

Samsung, a strong supporter of Windows 7, will be migrating all of its corporate PCs worldwide to the new operating system beginning in 2010. The Green IT collaboration effort between the world’s number one memory company and the world’s number one software company is expected to contribute to the revival of IT markets that have been depressed from the economic downturn.
At the beginning of September, Samsung initiated its own global marketing campaign centered around “Less Energy, More Speed”, initially focused on its energy-efficient, 40nm-class, 2Gb DDR3 DRAM. Also, Microsoft has announced significant reductions in power consumption with the new power management function in its recently released Windows 7 operating system.
“Windows 7 was designed as a more environmentally-sound and energy-efficient OS, particularly evident in its managing of memory and when shifting into lower power mode,” said Kim James Woo, Country Manager of Microsoft Korea. He added that “users will enjoy the benefits when Windows 7 and DDR3 are combined.”
“There is no doubt that the combination of Windows 7 and 40nm DDR3 in new PCs will make users very happy,” said Dong-Soo Jun, executive senior vice president of memory marketing at Samsung Electronics. He added, “If you opt for 4GB of memory in a Windows 7-based system, over typical 2GB-based systems used today, you’ll see an increase in performance, while using less power, thanks to the efficiency of Samsung’s 40nm DD3 DRAM.”
In the ensuing months, while measuring the effects of this and other collaborative Green IT efforts, Samsung will continue to examine the potential for other areas of global cooperation with Microsoft in IT technology development.

Thanko goes waterproof with their new EMP-708LITE Vonia earphones that feature bone conduction technology, just like how the Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth headsets work, save for the fact that this pair is waterproof. Just make sure you won’t dive more than 5 meters and the EMP-708LITE Vonia earphones ought to be able to hold up pretty nicely.
In addition, we’d recommend you get a decent waterproof case for your portable media player that you want to bring with you when racking up those laps at the community pool. This Japan-only device will retail for $45 thereabouts.

The rumors says that the newer generation of iPods, specifically the new Touch that is apparently on the way will be able to provide users with a little more than just audio video and surfing. Even the reports have stated that ‘well-connected’ sources have information that the new iPod Touch would come equipped with a camera and a microphone as well.
iPod is a Wi-Fi enabled device and thus PMP could make it an upgrade by adding communication via voice and image to the media device. With the combo of the microphone and Wi-Fi, the camera Skype calling could be enabled.
Most likely other manufacturers will follow the suit. There are chances that the camera may be used as a stand alone obviously for taking pictures and the same reports are also suggesting that the microphone could make voice commands a reality for the iPod Touch, making it that much more akin to the new iPhone 3GS.

Sony Ericsson’s very old news seems to be on June 17, there was this talk about Sony Ericsson announcing its next generation Xperia – the X2. However, the news was a waste as Sony Ericsson hastily cancelled the event of the launch because Samsung (as usual) dropped a bombshell in the form of the Omnia 2 that made Xperia X2’s look low.
Sony Ericsson seems determined to expand its XPERIA mobile phone series and is now reported to have plans of launching no more than three new devices that will fit into the family. The three new upcoming devices are named XPERIA X2, X3 and X5 have been announced to be launched in near future. There were rumors of it to be launched officially on July 17.
XPERIA family is not only adding member to it, but it feels as if it will be expanding to more operating systems than Microsoft’s Windows Mobile that came along with the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1. The new X2 is preferably on the same platform as X1, yet the X5 is suppose to be newly unveiled Rachael, should come to the market with Android.
The upcoming X3 is reported to be an interesting device as it is reported to be none other than the also recently spotted Sony Ericsson Kiki, which will come to the shelves with a transparent display. There is no X4 in the series yet. The information about the device is unfortunately limited to this. Yet, in case the company is indeed set to announce the handsets as soon as rumored, it won’t be long before more info will be obtained.
The news of the near launch was reveled through Twitter, UnwiredView reports, and no exact details on what the company has in store for us have been unveiled, yet we’re pretty sure that the hopes of a lot of enthusiasts out there are high already. Rachael is not the only one most interesting Android handsets in the market, considering the interface it is expected to come with, but Kiki might also become a popular phone, for its design seems rather mysterious, with no visible buttons on the face cover.
