Overview

A Tab For Everyone
By Amrit

ASUS Transformer Book T100 is a tablet announced in May, 2014 with detachable keyboard dock. It is a Windows 8.1 powered convertible tablet-laptop. In terms of design, it looks like a Acer Aspire Switch 10, another Windows 8.1 based tablet introduced in May, 2014 and is also the main competitor of the small laptops. Both the tablets are announced in the same month. The tab is available for purchase in United States. The Microsoft store is selling the device with a price tag of Rs. 20,903. Let's take a closer look at the specifications of the tab.

Display and Design

It features a standard HD resolution (1366x768) 10.1 inch display, with Zero Air Gap technology fixing the display panel directly to the glass for the better clarity of the picture. The display of the small laptop offers touch but without a digitizer there is no active support of the pen. The detachable hybrid is packed with lightweight plastic crafted with aluminium at the back of the tablet. It feels a bit big to use one-handed. The quality of the display is decent. Viewing angles are nice and colors are fairly vibrant. It is an IPS type display so gives an experience that is somewhat similar to other high-end and mid-range tablets.

It comes with a docking magnetic hinge which is also known as 'snap hinge'. It comes with a special keyboard dock which enable its users to attach tablet to the keyboard and use it more comfortably. With this new arrangement, user can use it in 4 different positions such as Pad Mode, Display Mode, Notebook Mode and Tent Mode. As far as the dimensions are concerned it has got a length of 264.16mm, a width of 170.18, a thickness of 10.414mm along with a weight of 185.97 grams.

Processor and Operating System

It bags an 1.47 GHz Intel Atom processor along with 2GB Ram, Intel HD Graphics and runs on Windows 8.1 operating system. The small hybrid device is offered with a free copy of 'Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013'.

Camera

The tablet uses a 1.2MP camera at the back with a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels with digital zoom and also 1.2MP camera has been added to the front panel for selfies and to make video calls or video chat. It is not capable of handling HD (High Quality) videos.

Storage

The internal memory of the T100 stands at 500 GB HDD and comes with expandable memory of 32GB or 64GB which can be used by inserting memory card slot. The company has offered this device with another storage option i.e. Asus Webstorage which also plays a role of storing important data whether it is official or personal. The storage capacity is quite sufficient so no need to worry about the department of memory.

Connectivity and Battery

The networking and connectivity options loaded in the phone comprise USB, Wi-Fi and 3.5mm headphone jack. There is only a single USB port on one side of the keyboard dock. It is provided with a 'Acer Snap Case' in order to save the keyboard and tablet and USB cable for charging. It is equipped with a 31 Whr battery offering an estimated battery life of 8 hours.

Multimedia and Other Features

In multimedia department, the device has a video player, music player, image viewer and video recording for enjoyment and entertainment. It is loaded with some basic features including calendar, alarm clock and organiser. The sale package include battery, tablet, dock, charger, user manual, HDD dock and warranty card.
