Samsung Z - Industry’s 1st Tizen Smartphone

Samsung has announced a new smartphone called the Samsung Z in June, 2014. It is the first phone to be powered by the Tizen operating system. Samsung Z will be launched in Russia in the third quarter, 2014 and after that it could be expanded to other markets. Let's check what Samsung has packed under the hood.

Design and Display

Samsung Z is designed using the cutting edge technology that imparts a slim and angular look. This device has a leather cover for the back panel bearing the logo of Samsung. It comes with a height of 138.2 mm, width of 69.8 mm and a thickness of 8.5 mm as its dimensions along with a weight of 136 grams. The overall look of phone is impressive with a HD super AMOLED display of 4.8-inches which provides a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. There is a single hard key present below the display along with two feather touch soft keys.

Hardware and Software

The smartphone is powered by the Quad-core 2.3 GHz processor along with a massive RAM of 2 GB. The device has an internal storage of 16 GB which can be expanded up to 64 GB via micro SD card. It runs on the Tizen 2.2.1 operating system. The phone also has sensors for heart rate, barometer, hall, accelerometer, proximity, gyro, compass, ambient light and fingerprint.

Camera

Samsung Z has a primary camera of 8 MP which provides a resolution of 3264x2484 pixels and is featured with an LED flash, auto-focus, digital zoom, mini mode, quick shot, best photo, drama and panorama. The 2.1 MP secondary camera provides a resolution of 1600x1200 and enables the users to video calling.

Connectivity and Battery

The connectivity attributes of the device includes GPRS, EDGE, 4G LTE, Bluetooth v4.0, micro USB v2.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, MIMO (2x2), IR Remote, hands-free and Infrared port. The device has a GPS and GLONASS support for navigation. It has been fueled by a Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery with ultra power saving mode to ensure a better usage time.

Entertainment

The device features a music player, FM radio and a video player for the entertainment of users. Music player supports the popular audio formats such as: MP3, M4A, 3GA, AAC, OGG, OGA, WAV, WMA, AMR, AWB, FLAC, MID, MIDI, XMF, MXMF, IMY, RTTTL, RTX and OTA. On the other hand, video player supports the MP4, M4V, 3GP, 3G2, WMV, ASF, AVI, FLV, MKV formats. One can record 1080p full HD videos on to the device. Other features includes a download booster, dynamic box, S health 3.0 and color theme customization. It also comes pre-loaded with various apps for the comfort of users.
